Jon,The analogy that you poeprsod is funny and does have some merit but is way too extreme. (after all, you are always extreme) I do agree that it is important to have a really nice site to impress your potential client but it becomes counter productive if you spend all your time trying to get it right. Today, people look for a site that is simple, easy to navigate to find what they are looking for and one that does not make them think. If you are able to incorporate these elements then your job is done. We as artists over think and try too hard to show off our skills in everything we design and THAT is why it is so hard to design our own. We fail to realize that this is our opportunity to show off that very notion in our work. Remember:1) Simplicity2) A site that is easy to navigate3) Don't make the customer or potential client thinkAs long as your site has these things, a customer will actually pay no attention to your site at all. They will be drawn to your work which is why they came to you in the first place. They want to see what you are going to do for them. Unless your clients are photographers or other website designers (which won't be), your customers will be looking at your examples of your work to see what you can do for them, not from your site. Thanks for reading and good day. I don't have all the answers. We all have parts to the big answers and we must learn to work together and listen. Anonymous

The real issue with the idustry today is that densgiers, especially freelance, are being grossly under-valued. Sites like freelancersdotnet are allowing postings from companies and individualswith little or no budget and high in expectation which borderline on piss-taking, to put it frankly. The business is still good for the high end elite, but sadly dire for most real-world opportunities thatfall below that Anonymous
